Here's A Question

Ah spring...you should spell like flowers and butterflies.

But you don't.

Why does spring smell like dirty socks and poop?

I mean, it just seems unfair. Now that it's warm enough to go outside, the thaw makes everything smell so very, very rank and nasty.

Just sayin'.

Is spring stinky where you are, or is that only in Canada?

Mostly here Spring just smells like dirt. Lots of dirt. That's turning into mud as the snow melts. But you're right, it does NOT smell like flowers and freshness.

My dd said she smelled (or is it smelt?) cookies this morning outside.

Spring apparently smells of cookies in my Canadian 'hood.

well...yes, spring does have a distinct smell, just don't bring that smell in the house! make sure you clean that "spring" off your shoes before you come indoors!

It's "stinky" in a different way because things bloom sooner here and I assume because we don't have the melt down that you do there!

Okay, you made me laugh with this one - I have to say that spring in Maryland is only stinky if you live by one of the farms. I guess I equate spring's smells as being loamy - like rich dirt and there's a warmth in the air (I'm not describing it right but I'm trying). Whereas in the fall, the air has this drier smell like you're smelling leaves before they even drop. Oh well, I am sorry that you get a poop smell - but the flowers will soon follow!

Major poop smell here in Indiana. When we spread manure in the winter (and my we I mean my husband and other smelly men) it sits there, frozen, the poop smell ready to come out at the first sign of warm weather. And oh boy, is it here!!

LOL... spring does have a certain smell doesn't it! In this Canadian city there isn't all that much to smell, what with all the snow! Can't wait until it's gone.

Its stinky here too! I think it has something to do with manure in the fields when they are planting????

Nice to meet you, by the way. love your blog!

I totally have an answer for you. I totally do. Listen up!

It smells like poop because of all those irresponsible dog owners who refuse to pick up after their dogs. It sits there frozen in 20 layers of snow and ice until the blissful day of melting occurs when it is released and spread around by the bottoms of people's shoes.

Aren't we blessed to have such lame dog owners in the world?

I can't smell spring in Texas because the allergens block my nose before the stink gets in.

That's not spring you're smelling, that's winter's end. There is a considerable gap between the two.

Spring smells pretty good here in Oklahoma. The lilac bush in my yard is blooming. Yesterday and today though, it just smells like rain, which is not bad either.
